About

When I moved to Spokane in 2024 from the East Coast, I was excited to be back in the land of abundant campsites and mountain ranges. Yet outside of a few major routes like the Panhandle Ramble, Bitterroot 300K, and Palouse to Cascade Trail, it has been difficult to find routes. Overnighters, the weekend-friendly, grab-a-buddy type of venture, are almost non-existent, at least in terms of formal routes.

Yet the Inland Northwest has stunning bike paths, rail trails, country highways, and gravel roads through farmlands and mountain ranges, many of which are accessible right from our urban centers. Between state, city, and government campsites, dispersed camping in our national forests, and unique Hipcamps, AirBnBs, and private sites, overnighters and longer excursions are possible, often with the potential to leave right from your house.

I made this site to aggregate previously scattered information. Basically, I wanted a resource where someone like me, a casual bikepacker at best, could locate routes and plan trips with confidence.

In its early iteration, Inland Northwest Bikepacking will:

  • Aggregate existing trips, providing high-level information about our premier Inland Northwest bikepacking and touring routes. These routes are carefully mapped and updated on other websites, and this site will link to the most authoritative resources.
  • Begin compiling possible overnighters from Spokane, Coeur d’Alene, Sandpoint, Pullman, and other Inland Nortwest cities to nearby campsites. These trails will utilize popular roads and trails as determined by RideWithGPS and Strava heatmaps.
  • Compile what I hope to be a thorough and eventually exhaustive list of campgrounds in the region.

Eventually, I hope the site will also accommodate:

  • Detailed reviews and itineraries for both overnighters and multi-day routes.
  • Become a community, including a GroupMe, for organizing trips with others in the Inland Northwest.

You can get involved by submitting and commenting on routes or contacting me with any other suggestions or questions.

Happy trails.
